AUGUSTA — Some Maine businesses are using their Yankee ingenuity to turn a buck from the approaching tropical storm from Hurricane Irene.

Papa J’s and the Lobster Bar in Belfast, usually closed Sundays, is opening for a few hours for a hurricane party. Jonathan’s Restaurant in Augusta is also advertising a hurricane party.

In York, Rivers by the Sea had some reservation cancellations for its seaside cottages due to the storm. So owner Don Rivers filled some of the openings after advertising for people to arrive before the storm. He says folks like to watch the ocean when it’s stormy.

The Maine Democratic Party, meanwhile, is going ahead with its Muskie Lobster Bake, and is now moving the event indoors in Freeport and billing today’s event as Muskie 2011 Hurricane Party.
