AUGUSTA — The founder of the Maine Green Energy Alliance says mistakes were made and lessons learned by the government-sponsored energy conservation agency, but says there was no wrongdoing or misuse of funds by the now-defunct alliance.
Thomas Federle also told the Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee today that the alliance’s administrative structure was not in order when it began its work expanding home energy audits and weatherization through community programs.
Lawmakers are conducting a hearing on a report by Maine’s Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability that finds no missing money or inappropriate use of funds in the alliance. It did find poor accounting and oversight in the agency.
Federle also acknowledged the appearance of close Democratic ties to the alliance, but says it was “completely disconnected” with that party.
