RAYMOND — Selectmen Tuesday night approved a five-year lease of Raymond Beach, which shut down last year due to unsanitary conditions.
Jeffery Pomeroy of Raymond will lease the beach and monitor its use. He also plans to build a 100-foot dock with a floating cafe that would sell hamburgers, hot dogs and steamed lobsters.
The restaurant would have a walk-up window for people at the beach and a drive-through window for boaters.
Raymond Beach was the only free, public beach on Sebago Lake. The town closed it last year when problems with waste, including human feces, left on the beach became out of control.
The beach did not have trash cans because motorists passing by had used them in the past, and there was more trash than the town could handle.
Pomeroy said he would like to open the restaurant the week before Memorial Day.
