Sean-Michael Grenier, 23, was apprehended on Riverbank Court following a four-mile chase, according to a Maine State Police statement.
Police did not indicate the speed involved in their statement, but some of those who saw portions of it play out estimated speeds of 50 miles an hour, according to comment on social media.
The chase ensued after MSP Trooper Adam Schmidt attempted to stop a 2002 Volkswagen GTI on North Avenue for a number of unspecified vehicle violations just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
“A pursuit ensued and after almost four miles the vehicle came to a stop on Riverbank Court in Springvale,” police said in the statement. “It was learned that Grenier’s license was under five active suspensions, he was on bail conditions, had a warrant for an unpaid fine and his vehicle was unregistered.”
Grenier was taken into custody without incident and charged witha Class C felony of eluding an officer. Police said he faces further charges, including misdemeanor operating after suspension and violating conditions of release.
Initially held without bail, Grenier remained at York County Jail this morning following a court appearance Monday where bail was set at $500 cash on the eluding charge and $300 on an unpaid fines charge for allegedly failing to pay restitution in connection with a prior conviction.
