FRYEBURG — Anthony Panciocco went 3-for-4 and Shea Wagner threw five shutout innings as the Freeport High School baseball team defeated Fryeburg Academy, 4-0, in a battle of top Western Maine Conference teams on Wednesday. 

The Falcons and Raiders both left the field with matching 11-3 records. 

Panciocco’s RBI single and a sacrifice fly ball by Eriksen Shea staked the visitors to a 2-0 first-inning lead. 

That is all Wagner needed as he allowed just two hits and five walks with six strikeouts. Blaine Cockburn relieved and threw two hitless frames on two walks and four strikeouts. 

Dawson Jones went the distance for Fryeburg with three walks and four strikeouts. 

Freeport heads to Gray-New Gloucester on Friday at 4 p.m.

Brunswick 9, Lewiston 6

The host Dragons plated seven runs in the sixth inning to rally for their third straight Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win. 

Brunswick, which improved to 6-8 and visits Morse on Friday at 4 p.m., grabbed the lead when Henry Burnham tripled for the second time. He finished with five RBIs. Sam Masse, Scout Masse and Cam Dunton picked up key hits in the sixth. 

Ryan Pomerleau and Jack LeBlond delivered RBI singles in the top of the sixth as the Blue Devils (8-6) scored three runs for a 4-2 lead. 

Cam Daly, who escaped a bases-loaded, no out jam in the fifth, and Sam Sharpe pitched for Brunswick. 

Gardiner 12, Morse 11

The host Tigers stunned the Shipbuilders, scoring eight runs in the sixth inning for a come-from-behind KVAC win. 

Morse, which led 11-4 after a five-run sixth, dropped to 8-6, while Gardiner improved to 4-8. 

Casey Bourque was 5-for-5 in the win with three runs scored. Issac  Gammon had four hits, scored a pair of runs and drove in two, while Kyle Adams had three hits. Gardiner picked up 20 base-knocks in all. 

Austin Magliozzi was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs for Morse, while Jackson Walker was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Asa Hodgdon also had two hits. 

Lisbon 14, Boothbay 1

The Greyhounds remained undefeated (12-0) with a Mountain Valley Conference win at Boothbay.

Trailing 1-0 after an inning, Lisbon plated three runs in the second, seven in the third and four more in the fifth to bring out the mercy rule. 

Levi Levesque and Neil LaRochelle combined on the mound, permitting two hits with six strikeouts and four walks. 

Noah Austin and LaRochelle each picked up two hits, while Hunter Brissette and Colin Houle each tripled. DJ Douglass and Mason Booker chipped in a double each. 

Andy Barter tripled in the first to drive in Boothbay’s (2-12) lone run, while Jared Carrier singled. 

The Greyhounds visit Telstar on Friday and host Winthrop Saturday morning. 

Old Orchard Beach 4,
Richmond 1

Andrew Charron drove in a run with a double and Sean Pratt added an RBI single as the Seagulls (5-9) handled the Bobcats (7-4) at Old Orchard Beach. 

Dakotah Gilpatric drove in Richmond’s lone run with a single. 

Peter Coleman added a sacrifice fly ball for OOB. 

The Bobcats visit Valley today at 4 p.m. 

Monmouth 16, Wiscasset 0

Matt Fortin and Seth McKenney each drove in three runs to power the host Mustangs (8-3) to an MVC win over the Wolverines.

Thomas Neal also doubled for Monmouth.

Wiscasset is 0-12 and hosts Dirigo today for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.

Softball

GARDINER— Morse plated three runs in the first and second frames en route to a 6-1 KVAC win over Gardiner. 

Paige Faulkingham launched a home run, singled and doubled to pace the Shipbuilders, who improved to 8-4 and hosts Brunswick today at 3:30 p.m. Abby Carpenter chipped in two doubles, Kali Pierce two singles, and Dory Kulis doubled and drove in a run. Halle Johnson and Caitlyn Bradford each singled. 

Kulis struck out seven and walked one for the mound win.

Libby Brann, Jaz Clary, Maddie Farnham and Kylie Maschino each singled for Gardiner (7-5), while Maggie Betham and Jill Bisson combined on seven strikeouts on the mound. 

Lewiston 7, Brunswick 4

The visiting Blue Devils scored six runs in the final three innings as they defeated the Dragons, who fell to 3-11 in KVAC action. 

Brunswick held a 2-1 lead going into the fifth inning before the Blue Devils scored three runs on five hits. Gemma Landry had a triple and Jordyn Rubin clubbed a double for Lewiston.

The Dragons got a run back in the bottom of the fifth as Kelsey Sullivan reached on a fielder’s choice after Morgan Plourde walked. Sullivan stole second and scored on Lexi Guptill’s third hit of the game to close the lead to 5-3. 

Lewiston scored three unearned runs to close the game.

Landry went five innings to pick up the win for Lewiston, giving up nine hits and issuing a walk. Rubin closed for the Blue Devils.

Shea Sullivan went the distance for Brunswick, limiting the Blue Devils to nine hits while walking one batter and surrendering three earned runs.

Landry had three hits for Lewiston, while Morgan Plourde and Mia DeSantis joined Guptill as repeat hitters for the Dragons. 

Fryeburg 8, Freeport 0

Emilia DeSanctis struck out 11 and tossed a six-hitter as the host Raiders downed the Falcons in WMC action. 

Tina LeBlanc belted a home run in the first inning, and Camden Jones, Paige O’Connell and Maddie Darling each picked up three hits for Fryeburg Academy (11-2).

Sarah Gray had three hits for Freeport, which fell to 5-8-1 and visits Gray-New Gloucester on Friday at 4 p.m. 

Monmouth 29, Wiscasset 1

The Mustangs banged out 14 hits and took advantage of six Wiscasset errors en route to the MVC win. 

Monmouth (7-4) scored 11 runs in the first. Abby Ferland and Taylor Truman each doubled. 

Wiscasset fell to 1-11 and hosts Dirigo for a doubleheader today at 3:30 p.m. 

Boys lacrosse

BATH — Nolan Blessington tallied four goals to lead Mt. Ararat to an 11-4 KVAC win over Messalonskee at McMann Field. 

Mt. Ararat (5-6) also received a hat trick and two assists from Riley Morin, along with a pair of goals from Eli Schoenberg, who also tallied an assist. Tristan Burch picked up a goal, with Hayden Libby adding a goal and three assists. 

Mt. Ararat, which closes its regular season at Brunswick this upcoming Wednesday (3:30 p.m.), used a 3-0 run in the third quarter for an 8-3 lead.
