BRADENTON, Fla. — Josh Beckett got roughed up in the fifth inning as the Boston Red Sox lost 9-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in an exhibition game today.
Beckett failed to record an out in Pittsburgh’s six-run fifth. He was charged with five runs and four hits, finishing with five strikeouts and two walks.
It was Beckett’s third outing of spring training. He had been slowed by mild concussion symptoms after he was struck by a ball during batting practice on Feb. 28.
Pirates starter Brad Lincoln allowed two runs and two hits in three innings. He walked two and struck out three.
Ronny Cedeno homered and Lyle Overbay had a two-run single in the fifth for Pittsburgh.
