TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat exploded for four second-half goals in a 5-0 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Hampden Academy on Wednesday in boys high school soccer action.

Travis Nadeau gave the Eagles (6-1) a 1-0 halftime lead.

Ethan Rac doubled the lead out 1:48 into the second frame off a Nolen Timberlake setup, and goals by Max Varela, Sebastian Varela and Eli Ouellette put the Broncos away. Max Spelke finished with two assists, with Nate Taylor adding a helper.

James Singleton pitched the shutout with two saves. Hampden Academy keepers Colby Small and Kenneth Penny combined on 10 saves.

Mt. Ararat visits Cony today at 3:30 p.m.

The host Dragons rolled to a KVAC win over the Vikings on Peter Gardner Field.

Emmet Taub scored the first of his three goals two minutes in to open the scoring. Luke Cheseldine added two goals in the first half with assists from Taub and Alec Hess. It was 4-0 at the half.

Noah Greene finished a header off a cross from Taub four minutes into the second half. Everett Horch, Lane Foushee and Taub put in the next three, all assisted from Matt Laforge.

Scoring was capped off with a direct kick from LaForge near the end of the half.

Jack McDiarmid finished with eight saves for the Dragons and Nick Martinez had 17 stops for Oxford Hills.

The Dragons are 2-4-2 and host Skowhegan on Saturday 11 a.m.

Bowdoin

GORHAM — Bowdoin scored four second-half goals to cruise to a 6-0 men’s soccer win over host University of Southern Maine.

The Polar Bears improved to 4-3, while the Huskies dropped to 2-6-1.

Moctar Niang put the Polar Bears on the board in the 29th minute, putting away a header on a corner kick feed from Harry Cooper. With just three minutes remaining in the half, Matty McColl tallied an unassisted mark.

Will Herman scored the first of Bowdoin’s four goals in the second half, netting the ball seven minutes into the frame. Niang finished off a free kick feed, this time from Alex Chaban, in the 56th minute.

Dylan Reid recorded his first collegiate goal off a ball from Niang and McColl. Ryan Donlan capped the game with his first goal as a Polar Bear at 71:12. Juan Magalhaes earned the assist.

Bowdoin held a 25-2 edge in shots and 8-1 corner kick advantage.

Owen Wolfson picked up the win in net with a save. USM keeper combined for 11 saves, 10 from Simon Hulbert.

Bowdoin hosts Thomas College on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Golf

BATH — Morse captured a KVAC Class B South tournament victory over Lincoln Academy.

Played at Bath Golf Club, the Shipbuilders finished with a total of 206, with the Eagles just two shots back.

Morse heads to the KVAC Class B shootout today at Rockland Golf Club, with tee time scheduled for 2 p.m.

Girls soccer

SOUTH PARIS — Anna Kousky scored the first two goals, and Charlotte MacMillan added a pair as Brunswick rolled to a 5-0 KVAC win over Oxford Hills.

Elena Palmer chipped in a goal for Brunswick (7-0-1), while Emily Larochelle chipped in a pair of assists. Kousky also had a helper.

Beth Labbe turned away eight shots in the Brunswick cage, with Viking keeper Jillian Douglas making 16 saves.

“A good game between two attacking teams,” said Brunswick coach Martyn Davison, whose Dragons visit Skowhegan on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Lisbon 3

Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone scored three goals to power the visiting Ramblers to a Mountain Valley Conference win over Lisbon.

The Greyhounds fell to 5-2-1 and visit Boothbay on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Winthrop held a 29-15 shot advantage, but Lisbon stayed with the Ramblers. The game was tied 1-1 at the half.

Kiley Merritt had two goals for the ’Hounds, with Giana Russo scoring off an assist from Destiney Deschaines.

Lisbon keeper Sarah Haggerty turned away 14 shots.

Field hockey

FREEPORT — Six players scored at least one goal as Freeport rolled to a 7-0 Western Maine Conference win over Cape Elizabeth.

Kerry Lefebvre led the way with two goals and one assist for the 9-2 Falcons. Ainsley Decker chipped in one goal and one assist, with Natalie Anderson, Ally Randall, Amelia Farrin and Alexa Koenig picking up a goal.

Sierra Zahares added an assist for Freeport, which visits Fryeburg Academy on Friday at 4 p.m.

Mt. Ararat 2

The host Eagles ended a three-game slide with an overtime KVAC win over the Red Eddies in Topsham.

Mt. Ararat is 6-3 heading into today’s home contest with top-ranked Skowhegan at 3:30 p.m.

After a scoreless first half, Edward Little and Mt. Ararat both scored a goal in the second half to force overtime. Courtney Larson scored first for EL (3-6). Brynn Charron tied the game for Mt. Ararat (6-3).

In overtime, Wyley Fitzpatrick scored the winner for the Eagles.

Elise Syphers saved nine shots for EL.

Brunswick 2
Oxford Hills 4

Brooke Carson scored a hat trick to lead Oxford Hills to a win over Brunswick on Wednesday.

Sara Scrapchansky opened the scoring for Brunswick (2-7).

Jessica Bickford answered with a goal for the Vikings (5-3-1) to tie the game, which was followed by Carson’s first goal to give Oxford Hills a 2-1 halftime lead.

Carson scored to open the second half. That was followed by a goal by Kelsey Sullivan, and then Carson scored her third to end the scoring.

Liberty Krauss saved 15 shots for Brunswick, while Madison Day had nine stops for the Vikings.

The Dragons visit Cony today at 4 p.m.

Lisbon 1
Mtn. Valley 2

At Rumford, Mountain Valley’s Rylee Sevigny scored and then assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime for Mountain Valley in MVC action against the Greyhounds.

Sevigny’s first-half goal gave the Falcons (8-3) a 1-0 lead. Mountain Valley was held off the scoreboard in the second half, while Sadie Hardt of Lisbon (4-6) tied the game to send it into overtime.

In the extra period, Sevigny assisted on sister Avery Sevigny’s goal to earn the win.

Despite outshooting Lisbon 30-2, Mountain Valley struggled to score. Lisbon goalie Rebecca Budesheim made 20 saves, while Nora Tag made one save for the Falcons.

Lisbon visits Hall-Dale on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
