
He was born in South Paris, Feb. 12, 1916, the son of Jarvis Marble Thayer Sr., and Georgia Marshall Thayer. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1934 and Colby College in 1938. Mr. Thayer served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was employed with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for 30 years, retiring as a senior vice president. He retired to Maine with his wife Hazel Wepfer Thayer in 1980. Mrs. Thayer died in 1997. Mr. Thayer was also predeceased by a daughter, Janie Thayer Hutchinson, and a sister, Frances Thayer.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel C. Thayer, of Orr’s Island; a daughter, Barbara Barry, and her husband, Sean, of Novato, CA; four stepchildren: Meredith Johnson and her husband, Thomas, of New Harbor; Michael Lamarre and his wife, Laurie, of Friendship; Matthew Benner of Waldoboro; C. Douglas Benner II of Bristol; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Services will be private with interment in Orr’s Island Cemetery.
