New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, numerous media outlets reported Tuesday, quoting unnamed NFL sources.
The Patriots have not disclosed the injury nor indicated if or when Faulk might be placed on injured reserve, meaning he’d be out for the season.
Faulk, 34, was injured after being knocked out of bounds following an 8-yard gain in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 28-14 loss to the New York Jets.
Faulk is considered one of the top receiving backs in the NFL and an excellent pass blocker.
The Patriots traded running back Laurence Maroney to Denver last week. Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and the recently signed Danny Woodhead are among the team’s remaining running backs.
The Patriots (1-1) face Buffalo (0-2) this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
