Audubon invites public to see and learn about owls
Maine Audubon will offer the chance to meet six live owls at “Eyes on Owls” presentations at Gilsland Farm on Saturday.
There will be a slide-show introduction to owls of New England and beyond, a hooting lesson, tips on finding owls in your neighborhood without disturbing them and an opportunity to see owls up close.
The programs will take place at 9:30 a.m.,11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The two morning sessions will be shorter and tailored for children ages 2 and up.
The cost is $15 per adult and $10 per child (Maine Audubon members receive a $5 discount), and registration is required. Call 781-2330, ext. 209.

Loon Echo Land Trust takes applications for grants
Loon Echo Land Trust is taking applications for its 2011 Environmental Educational Grants.
Each year, the trust awards small grants to schools and libraries in Bridgton, Casco, Denmark, Harrison, Naples, Sebago and Raymond for environmental education purposes.
Applications may be downloaded at www.lelt.org.
Schools and libraries may submit multiple program applications, but only one grant award will be considered per school or library. The deadline for submission is Jan. 15.
Funds for the grants are made available through the trust’s Educational Endowment, developed as a memorial to two teachers, Helen Allen and Polly Bartlett.

New 5K race next Sunday to benefit Portland Trails
Four Portland breweries are teaming up with Ri Ra Irish Pub to host a 5K Holiday Dash at 11 a.m. Dec. 12 to benefit Portland Trails and to help people stay active during the holiday season.
Runners will be treated to scenic views of the Eastern Prom and a post-race party at Ri Ra, with food and beer from the sponsoring breweries.
In addition to Portland Trails, Toys for Tots will benefit from the race, as participants are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy as a donation.

Nominations are sought for Maine Guide award
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Professional Guides Association are seeking nominations for the annual Wilmot “Wiggie” Robinson Legendary Maine Guide Award.
The award, in its second year, honors Robinson, a respected outdoorsman who was a Maine Master Guide from 1950 until his death in 2007.
Anyone interested in nominating a Registered Maine Guide or Master Maine Guide may print nomination forms from the department’s website, www.mefishwildlife.com. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 10.
