The State Class A Indoor Track and Field Championships were held at the University of Southern Maine on Monday, with Mt. Ararat and Brunswick athletes in competition.
Scarborough swept the meet, taking the boys title with 102.25 points and the girls with 88.Boys
Mt. Ararat’s Cameron Meier turned in a winning performance for the Eagles, taking the one-mile title in 4:29.32.
He followed it up with a fifth-place showing in the two-mile, crossing the finish line in 10:05.45.
Brunswick had several solid performances, with Seth White taking third in the long jump (20-11.75) and fourth in the 200-meter run (23.46).
Three Dragons placed in the long jump, with Samuel Cenescar earning runner-up honors by clearing the bar at 5-10. Teammates Ryan Olson and Aaron Gary finished in a tie for third place at 5-08.
Sullivan Boyd was seventh in the shot put after a throw of 46-04. The story in the shot put came from Brewer’s Austin Lufkin, who broke a 40-year old record with a heave of 61-02.
Scarborough won both relays and five individual events, highlighted by three victories from Sam Rusak (200, high jump, pole vault).
Westbrook finished second with 46 points, followed by Deering (40), Thornton Academy (35) and Lewiston (30) in the top five. Brunswick was sixth with 26.50 points, while Mt. Ararat captured 14th (13).
Girls
Three Mt. Ararat runners earned spots on the podium.
Katherine Leckbee took second in the two mile (11:42.73) and third in the one mile (5:30.60), while Sara York was sixth in the 800 (2:30.52) and Wyley Fitzpatrick seventh in the 400 (1:03.10).
Cheverus was second in the meet with 61 points, while the top five was rounded out by Thornton Academy (37), Westbrook (34) and Falmouth (22). Mt. Ararat was eighth with 17 points.
Juliana Selser of South Portland set a record in the 800, crossing in 2:16.82. Emma Gallant of Cheverus won two events — the 200 and 400 — while Nyagoa Bayak of Westbrook was victorious in both the high jump and triple jump.
