A freshman class from Freeport High School is hosting a dinner fundraiser to spread awareness about genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan in northeastern Africa.

The event will be held on Wednesday in the Freeport Community Center from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will feature student artwork, music and presentations.

The meal will be prepared by chef Lindsay Sterling from Immigrant Kitchens and will feature a talk by activist and genocide survivor El Fadel Arbab.

Admission is $8 and proceeds will benefit the Fur Cultural Revival, a Portlandbased organization focused on raising awareness about genocide in Darfur and helping refugees from the region who live in Portland.
