AMHERST, Mass. — Colby took charge with a 9-4 spurt early in the second half and defeated Bowdoin 75-64 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament.

The run expanded the Mules’ 42-32 halftime lead to 51-36, and the Polar Bears (20-6) got no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Diana Manduca had a four-point play and Jacky McLaughlin hit a 3-pointer as Colby (23-3) opened a 37-25 lead with 3:25 left in the first half with a 9-0 run.

Manduca finished with 18 points, and Aarika Ritchie and Rachael Mack each scored 15. Julianne Kowalski added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Amy Hackett led the Polar Bears with 18 points and Caitlyn Hynes scored 14.

 

 

WESTERN CONN. STATE 61, USM 46: Melissa Teel had 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the top-seeded Colonials (22-5) past the third-seeded Huskies (20-8) in the Little East Conference championship game at Danbury, Conn.

After taking a 31-28 lead into halftime, Western Connecticut broke it open in the second half with a 14-4 run in a seven-minute span that opened a 51-36 lead with 9:46 to play.

Curran Leighton had 21 points and eight rebounds for Southern Maine. Renee Nicholas added 14 points and six rebounds.

 

AMHERST 77, BATES 43: Kristy Dunleavy scored 17 points and Lem Atanga McCormick had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the top-seeded Jeffs (26-0) past the sixth-ranked Bobcats (14-12) in a NESCAC semifinal at Amherst, Mass.

Lauren Yanofsky scored a 11 points for Bates to finish her career with 1,001.

ALBANY 62, MAINE 57: Charity Iromuanya scored 16 points to lead the Great Danes (11-18, 4-12 America East) past Maine (8-20, 4-12) at Orono.

Katelyn Vanderhoff led Maine with 15 points, and Katia Bratishko had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
