The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who snatched a woman’s purse Saturday afternoon outside the Umbrella Factory Supermarket in Naples.

Police said the white man ambushed a 41-year-old Harrison woman in the store’s parking lot as she was attempting to load grocery bags into her car.

The woman fought back, grabbing the man’s arm, but he freed himself by pulling off his sweatshirt and fled with her purse. He ran in the direction of Bray’s Brew Pub. The woman suffered minor injuries during the struggle.

The victim’s purse contained identification and credit cards. The purse snatcher used her credit card on Saturday to make a purchase at the Rite Aid on Portland Road in Bridgton.

Police said the robber may have been driving a full-size red Chevy or GMC cab pickup truck. The truck had a wooden ladder attached to the bed.

Police have a surveillance photograph of the man and recovered a ball cap that he dropped during the theft. Anyone with information about him is urged contact the sheriff’s office at 774-1444, ext. 2108.
