A Virginia man faces charges of being a fugitive from justice after he was arrested in Gray after allegedly taking his brother’s birth certificate and Social Security card from a home there and then fleeing on a bicycle.

A Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy arrested David Hurst, 30, on Monday night at the McDonald’s in the center of town at 10 p.m.

Police were called by Hurst’s sister, who lives on Shaker Road and said Hurst had taken their brother’s identification papers and then pedaled away on a bicycle. The deputy caught up with him when he stopped at McDonald’s.

When asked his name, Hurst initially said Jason, but then looked down and “grimaced” before answering truthfully, police said.

Police found that he was wanted on three felony assault warrants from Virginia. He is being held in Cumberland County Jail pending extradition.
