Reindeer Dash to benefit Toys for Tots campaigns
The Reindeer Dash, a four-mile run or walk road race, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at The Landings Restaurant in Rockland.
Proceeds will benefit the Toys for Tots campaigns in Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties.
Santa will be on hand for pictures. Awards will be given for the top three male and female finishers as well as for the ugliest sweater.
Registration is $15 with a donation of a new unwrapped toy, or $20 without a toy. Long-sleeve tech T-shirts will be given to the first 50 registered.

Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is offering a hike with a ranger at 2 p.m. Sunday at 426 Wolf Neck Road.
The program starts at the circle of benches at the end of the second parking lot and includes a guided tour around the park.
No reservations needed and the program is free with park admission of $1 to $4.50.

Appalachian Mountain Club to host winter skills workshop
The Maine Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club will host a daylong winter outings skills workshop beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
During a morning session chapter leaders Peter Broderick and Laura Flight will discuss clothing, gear, snow travel and other essentials and techniques to prepare for outdoor outings in the winter. Then, after a potluck lunch, attendees may participate in an optional short outdoor session.

Church to host benefit concert, kids only shop
St. Matthew’s Church will host a benefit Christmas concert at 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday featuring performances by the Grace trio of Janice Sargent, Tamesin Fleenor and Melissa Ciccarelli at 496 Lisbon St., Route 196.
In addition to the Sunday concert, the church will host a Kids Only Christmas Shop from 1 to 4 p.m. that features free gifts and those for $1 and under, that children can afford to buy for a loved one. There also will be live lambs in the church lobby from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday .
Proceeds will benefit the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry. Members of the church will provide desserts and coffee during both concert’s intermission.

Sarah Gladu, Damariscotta River Association education director, will offer a program on ‘Staying Found’ and basic orienteering from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the DRA Salt Bay Farm, 110 Belvedere Road.
Program participants will be taught basic tips on how to avoid getting lost, reading maps and using a compass. This program is suitable for anyone over age nine. Compasses will be provided.

The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library will host two events this week in conjunction with Christmas prelude activities being celebrated in the Kennebunks.
A December drop-in craft session will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Junior Room at 18 Maine St. All materials are provided. All ages are invited. Young children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.
On Saturday, at 1 p.m., the Kennebunkport Bell Ringers will perform “A Garland of Carols,” featuring a mix of seasonal favorites.

Seaglass Chorale to perform ‘Drive Winter Away’ concerts
The Seaglass Chorale, under the direction of Jean Strazdes, will offer to holiday performances of its “The Drive the Cold Winter Away” concerts this weekend.
The first concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the South Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, and the second is at 3 p.m. Sunday at the North Parish Congregational Church of Sanford.

Cartooning workshop for teens scheduled at library
Patten Free Library will host a free cartooning workshop for teens from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday in the library’s community room, 33 Summer St.
Cartoonist and professional illustrator Vance Bessey will share some of his work and demonstrate techniques.
Students in grades 7-12 are invited to bring samples of their own work. The workshop is open to beginners as well as more advanced students.
