PORTLAND — People who live in northern New England have some of the lowest car insurance rates in the country.
A survey by Insure.com says the lowest rates are found in Maine, followed by Vermont. New Hampshire and Massachusetts also made the top 10.
Insure.com averaged the annual premiums for more than 2,400 new vehicles insured by six major carriers. Its survey looked at 10 zip codes in each state.
The survey found that the average premium is $902.85 in Maine and $968.58 in Vermont. That compares at the opposite spectrum to more than $2,500 in Louisiana.
