All medical marijuana caregivers in Cumberland must register with the town by April 24 as part of a new rule that went into effect Jan. 24. A medical marijuana caregiver is defined as someone who must register with the State of Maine Office of Marijuana Policy.

Under the new rule, licensed caregivers cannot have more than 30 mature marijuana plants, can’t operate in a location that’s less than 500 feet from a school or daycare and are required to have video surveillance and a professionally installed alarm system. There is a $2,000 application fee, but the town is offering a $1,000 discount until Feb. 24. The full ordinance can be read at cumberlandmaine.com.

All applications must be submitted to the town clerk’s office either via email at todonnell@cumberlandmaine.com or in person at 290 Tuttle Road. The application can be found on the town’s website. Any questions should be directed to Code Enforcement Officer Bill Longley, who can be reached at wlongley@cumberlandmaine.com.
