CUMBERLAND – Karen Alice (Zill) Landa, RN, ANP, 69, passed to her rest on Feb. 12, 2022, at Maine Medical Center, after battling COVID-19.
Karen was born on March 27, 1952, in Bengaluru, India (formerly Bangalore) to expat American missionaries, W. Forrest and Mary Alice Zill. Karen and her younger sister, Kathy, have been inseparable throughout the years. They each attended boarding schools in Northern India (Vincent Hill School), and Singapore (Far Eastern Academy).
The missionary family returned to the States as Karen entered Southern Adventist University in Tennessee. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and went on to work as an ER nurse for over 25 years, later obtaining a master’s degree as Nurse Practitioner.
In 1999 she married David A. Landa, MBA, of upstate New York where they would both work for three years in the healthcare field. In 2002, they purchased Ledgeview Assisted Living in Cumberland Foreside, which they operated for the next 20 years. The Ledgeview Staff was their greatest treasure and the ones who earned the fine reputation Ledgeview enjoyed. Karen and David sold Ledgeview Assisted Living in late December 2021 to retire.
Karen is survived by her husband David of 22 years; three stepdaughters, Kimberley Morisette (Dallas) of Lafayette, Ind., Jillian Landa of Laurel, Md. and Katrina Landa (Carlos Poni) of Oceanside, Calif.; sister, Kathleen Higgs of Apopka, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kalla Carballo, and Ethan, Madison, Mia, and Isabella Morisette; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her life will be held at the Brunswick Seventh-day Adventist Church, 333 Maine Street, Brunswick, on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.
