It is telling that the syndicated political cartoon by John Darkow of the Columbia Missourian, published March 7 (Page A6), shows baseball umpires forlorn over a “labor dispute.”
There is little dispute among baseball labor elements; the dispute is between the owners (American oligarchs) of businesses (teams) and the players (labor).
The unspoken conventional bias against labor is obvious in the cartoon’s one-sided framing of the conflict. Conflict is inherent in the process of dividing business revenue, produced by labor and business investment, between owners and labor.
Representing labor as the problem is disingenuous, but commonplace.
