Cemetery wall needs repair

The stone wall at the village cemetery, which contains the graves of many of Gorham’s oldest families, is due for a facelift.

Chunks of mortar and stone have fallen from the structure and the town is seeking proposals to effect repairs at South Street Cemetery at 43 South St.

In 1770, Jacob Hamblen gifted land for the cemetery, which contains graves of the town’s founding families, with names like Phinney, McLellan, Harding and Hamblen.

Bids must be received on or before 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the town hall, or mailed in sealed envelopes and marked “Stone Wall Repair – 2022” to Town Manager Ephrem Paraschak, 75 South St., Gorham, ME 04038. Electronic bids will not be accepted.

All pre-bid correspondence should be submitted electronically to Public Works Director Terry Deering at tdeering@gorham.me.us, or Deputy Director Jeff Grant at jegrant@gorham.me.us. Questions can be directed to 222-4950.
