Summer weekend events lined up at Carson Refuge
The Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge will host special nature programs at 10 a.m. each Saturday and Sunday through mid-August. Programs are free and open to the public, with each program lasting 30 minutes to an hour.
Refuge staff will lead guided walks along the Carson Trail, focusing on the history of the refuge, Rachel Carson’s life and legacy, forest and salt marsh ecology, and wildflower and tree identification. For more information, call 646-9226.
BOSTON
Semester-at-sea students make final port of call
After spending four months on board the schooner Harvey Gamage, 13 students will graduate on Saturday in a ceremony at Fan Pier in Boston, where the ship will arrive under full sail. Ocean Classroom Foundation provides educational programs aboard the three windjammers owned by the nonprofit organization, headquartered in Boothbay Harbor.
The students have completed their semester at sea that covered more than 3,000 miles from Maine to the Caribbean, learning maritime skills as well as completing conventional academic classes.
Participating students from Maine are: Macy Lamson of Augusta, Charles Campbell of Boothbay Harbor, Daniel Dickinson of Boothbay Harbor, Kaitlin Orne of Boothbay Harbor, Christopher Reynolds of Boothbay Harbor, Ian Leavitt of Freeport, Troy Dylan of Camden and Abigail Campbell of North Haven.

Maine taxidermists to demonstrate their craft
Taxidermists from Trails End and Avian Taxidermy will give demonstrations of their craft from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Maine Wildlife Park.
Taxidermists Dana Soucier and Tom Berube will lead the demonstrations. Soucier will show how to mount a deer head and Berube will demonstrate how to mount waterfowl.
Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $5 ages 5-12 and for seniors; $7 for adults. Groups of 15 or more are $3.50 per person. Family and community season passes also are available.

BRYANT POND
Free Youth Field Day is Saturday at 4-H Camp
Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, in partnership with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, hosts its 5th Annual Youth Field Day on Saturday. Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine.
The Maine Bowhunters will run the archery range, and the camp’s rifle and shotgun ranges will be open. Master falconer Larry Barnes will be on hand to talk about falconry.
Other activities include paddling, fly-tying, fishing, Maine Guide skills demonstration, primitive skills workshop and more.
The activities are appropriate for children ages 6 and over; children must be accompanied by an adult.
