AUGUSTA — The son of a Maine cartoonist says he wasn’t offended when Republican Gov. Paul LePage joked that he’d like to shoot the boy’s father last month.
The Sun Journal reports that Gov. LePage issued a handwritten apology to Nick Danby, the son of Bangor Daily News cartoonist George Danby, for making the remarks when asked by Nick Danby what he thought of his father.
Nick Danby wrote to the governor earlier this month, accepted his apology and said he was never offended.
The governor’s spokesman Peter Steele confirmed that LePage sent Nick a personal note, but said that copies of the note are not available.
