State Street in Portland was closed early Thursday morning because of a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

Portland police said a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 pickup was going south on State Street around 12:45 a.m. when the motorcycle rider pulled out from Grant Street, headed east. The 2002 Harley Davidson hit the passenger side of the pickup truck, and the rider ended up under the truck.

Rescue workers pulled the rider out from under the truck and took him to nearby Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. The motorcycle driver, a 27-year-old Freeport man, was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 23-year-old woman from Sebago, was not injured. She and her passenger, a 39-year-old man from Harrison, were transported to Maine Medical Center as a precaution.

Police have yet not released the names of the people involved in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Portland Police Traffic Division at 874-8532.
