Scarborough’s baseball and softball programs recently announced the winners of several awards, including the Peter Walsh Sr. Youth Baseball Coaching Award, which was presented to Scarborough High softball coach Tom Griffin for his 15 years of work at offseason skills clinics for baseball and softball players.
Baseball players Chris Barnard and Jim Rouse received $1,000 scholarships from Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76. Also, the Phil Martin Scarborough Youth Baseball Awards selection committee announced its winners: Sam Dedian, Alex O’Connor and Stephen Swaney, development team; Wyatt Bridgham, Jack Vincent and Sam Warren, seventh-grade team; and Ben Greenberg, eighth-grade team. The awards aim to encourage dedicated players to continue playing at the high school level.
Andrew Bradford of Pownal shot a course-record 65 from the championship tees at Toddy Brook Golf Course on July 7. Bradford had a 5-under 31 on the front nine and was 1-under 34 on the back nine. His playing partner was Chris Juntura.
Ed Connolly aced the fifth hole at Willowdale Golf Club on July 1. He used a driver for the shot, which was witnessed by Dick Connolly and John Maroon.
David Soucier of Westbrook used a hybrid to ace the 135-yard third hole on July 3 at Copper Hill Golf Club in East Granby, Conn.
Joel Hawks scored his fourth career hole-in-one on the 140-yard eighth hole at Dunegrass Country Club on July 5. He used a 9-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Skip Norton.
Jim Lee sank his first hole-in-one on the 112-yard 18th hole at Toddy Brook Golf Course on July 5. He used an 8-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Victor Linkovich, Tony Linkovich and Karl Steinbach.
Dan Shumaker of Portland made a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at Spring Meadows Golf Club on July 7. He used a 9-iron for the 133-yard shot, which was witnessed by Brendan Gow.
Mike Stone used a 5-iron to score a hole-in-one on the 163-yard ninth hole at Purpoodock Club on July 9.
Fran DeAndrade of Raynham, Mass., aced the 17th hole at Point Sebago Resort in Casco on July 9. He used a 9-iron for the 130-yard shot, which was witnessed by Robert Hickey.
