MACHIASPORT — Police say a simmering feud in eastern Maine has resulted in two lobstermen facing charges after allegedly getting into a fight on a pier.

Marine Patrol Officer Jason Leavitt said police were called Sunday evening to Machiasport where they found 43-year-old John Wood and 21-year-old Jessie Moody fighting.

Moody was charged with assault for allegedly attacking Wood with a 4-foot piece of wood. Wood was charged with criminal mischief for allegedly breaking out the windows of Moody’s pickup truck.

Wood told the Bangor Daily News that tensions have been simmering in Machiasport, where dozens of lobstermen compete for a relatively small area of fishing grounds.
