Sydney Giroux hit a run-scoring single to start a four-run fifth inning Friday that helped Deering pull away to a 6-4 victory against Westbrook in an SMAA softball opener.

Cassidy Coyne added an RBI single and Kaytlin DiBiase picked up the win, striking out five. Kaylee Helmick and Giroux each added two hits.

Camryn LaPierre had a double and a triple, and Maddison LeBeau struck out 10 for Westbrook.

MASSABESIC 3, BIDDEFORD 2: Sarah Guimond allowed two runs and struck out six to lead the Mustangs in an opener at Biddeford.

Massabesic scored two runs in the third inning on RBI hits by Grace Tutt and Kate Shubert. Shubert drove in another run in the fourth.

Kirsten Lebreux of Biddeford allowed one earned run and struck out nine. Brittany Roy had an RBI single and Amber Magnant finished with two hits.

OCEANSIDE 12, BELFAST 0: Chloe Jones threw a no-hitter in a five-inning game to lead the Mariners (2-0) past the Lions (1-1) at Rockland.

Jones struck out nine and walked two, and Casey Pine went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs. Kali Grover added two hits and an RBI, and Kimmy Roman and Ari Curtis each had two hits.

Gia Davila struck out four and walked two for Belfast.

MCAULEY 15, CHEVERUS 2: Jill Joyce and Gabriel Begos each went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the visiting Lions (1-1) over the Stags (0-1) in six innings at Portland.

Madeline Beaulieu had a double and drove in three runs, and Ashley Littlefield of McAuley allowed two runs on two hits and three walks, striking out four.

FALMOUTH 15, POLAND 3: Madeline Rouhana drove in four runs as the Yachtsmen (1-0) defeated the Knights (0-2) in five innings at Falmouth.

Rouhana homered to lead off the bottom of the first inning and tie the game. Julia Treadwell of Falmouth finished with five strikeouts and two walks, allowing two earned runs.

Falmouth scored multiple runs in each inning, with five players finishing with at least two hits. Sarah Walton’s double was the only extra-base hit for Poland.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 6, SACOPEE VALLEY 2: Alie Martell hit a home run and Cara Waltz added an RBI double to lead the Patriots (3-0) over the Hawks (0-1) at Gray.

Martell’s homer was a first-inning blast to left-center. The Patriots took advantage of three errors to score three runs in the fifth and extend their lead to 5-0.

Madison Day and Brenna Humphrey had two hits apiece for Sacopee.

MESSALONSKEE 12, CAMDEN HILLS 0: Kirsten Pelletier pitched a two-hitter, and Sarah Labbe had three doubles, an RBI and two runs to spark the Eagles (2-0) over Camden Hills (0-2) at Oakland.

Madisyn Charest and Kelsey Dillon each had two singles for Messalonskee.

MORSE 8, ERSKINE ACADEMY 6: The Shipbuilders took advantage of seven errors to score six unearned runs and win an opener at South China.

Hope Faulkingham went 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and a run for Morse.

Mallory Chamberlain, Amber Grady and Lydia Boucher had hits for Erskine.

SCARBOROUGH 18, BONNY EAGLE 0: Lilly Volk allowed only one hit and belted a first-inning grand slam to lead the Red Storm to a five-inning victory in an opener at Standish.

The Red Storm extended their lead in the second inning on a three-run homer by Abbie Murrell. Scarborough finished with 18 hits, including five repeat hitters.

Volk pitched four innings, recording seven strikeouts and no walks.

CONY 12, MT. ARARAT 11: Freshman Alexis Couverette hit a game-tying, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the winning hit in the ninth to lift Cony (2-0) over Mt. Ararat (0-2) in nine innings at Augusta.

The Rams trailed 11-8 in the seventh before Couverette homered. She was a triple short of the cycle.
