A bulletin outside the Press Telegram offices in Portland reports a worldwide total of 6 million dead from influenza in three months. Newspapers reported daily on the rising number of casualties from the flu. The hospital that's now Northern Light Mercy Hospital was founded in 1918 in response to the pandemic.
