Police to auction 203 pink license plates for charity

Pink license plates displayed on Maine State Police vehicles last month in honor of breast cancer awareness are being auctioned off.

The auction of the 203 plates will begin Nov. 15 at noon on the Maine Cancer Foundation’s eBay page.

The organization says the plates have been signed by troopers, and some also come with notes, photos and “paw prints” from law enforcement dogs, or K9 units.

Proceeds will go to the Maine Women’s Cancer Fund, the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition’s Support Service Fund and the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program’s Mammogram Fund.

Central Maine Power warns customers about scam

Maine’s largest utility is renewing its warning to customers to be aware of a scam to fraudulently collect money from customers.

Central Maine Power Co. said it has received reports of people claiming to represent CMP calling customers and demanding immediate payments. Some customers have been told to deposit cash or a money order into bogus accounts through convenience store cash transfer systems, while others have been instructed to call a number and provide personal financial information to settle a bill.

CMP says most of the calls have targeted the owners of small businesses and restaurants in the Lewiston-Auburn, Portland and Augusta areas. Some residential customers have also reported getting calls.
