A 71-year-old Waldoboro man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening in Warren, police said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Old Augusta Road and Ridge Road, Lt. Reginald Walker of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man’s 2007 Nissan Versa car, which was traveling north, was hit shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday on the driver’s side by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Edward Matson, 39 of Waldoboro, who was headed south.

The man driving the Nissan died at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle and seat belts were being used by both drivers, police said.

Matson was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, where he was treated for minor injuries, police said.

The deceased man’s name was being withheld by police pending notification of his family.
