From staff reports

Staff Writer Meredith Goad is a finalist for a 2015 food writing award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Her story, “Forged with an Iron Will,” which details the history of cast-iron pans that have been passed down for generations in her Tennessee family (she is the current proud owner) is one of three finalists for a Bert Greene Award in the Category of Personal Essays/Memoirs.

She is competing against former New York Times writer Mimi Sheraton, for an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal; and Food & Wine restaurant editor Kate Krader.

Along with the James Beard Foundation Awards for food writing, the IACP awards are considered the most prestigious in the food publishing industry. The story was published in the Press Herald on Sept. 3, 2014. Winners will be announced on March 29 in Washington, D.C.
