LOS ANGELES — Former rap music mogul Marion “Suge” Knight must stand trial on murder and attempted-murder charges for striking two men with his pickup truck, killing one and seriously injuring the other, a judge ruled Thursday.

Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen rejected Knight’s argument that he acted in self-defense when he was attacked by a group of men outside a burger stand. Authorities contend Knight intentionally hit the men, killing Terry Carter, 55, and injuring Cle “Bone” Sloan.

Knight, 49, was a key player in the gangster rap scene in the 1990s.
