The birds are really loud at 5AM this time of year and getting up early isn’t a problem. I find myself going to sleep before 9PM so I can enjoy all the hours of daylight.

We have a warmer day for everyone today, especially those of you who live along the coast. Portland barely reached the low 50s for a short time on Saturday, which was much less than the long term 30 year average for the day. That persistent east wind can really knock back temperatures. Towards Sanford, Fryeburg and Bridgton it was much warmer.

The sun is very strong in May. This time of year the sun is about as strong as it would be in late July and early August. Don’t underestimate the strength of it or a spring sunburn will result.

Today features lot of sunshine at times. We do have to burn off the fog and mist before that happens. I think the balance of the day will turn sunny. There is a small risk of a pop-up shower, especially inland.

Highs will go into the 60s to near 70F, especially inland. This will be up to 20 degrees warmer than Saturday some places.

After a pleasant night, temperatures are going to quickly rise to summer-like levels on Monday. I expect many areas to reach near 80F. There won’t be noticeable humidity in the air, but since this is the warmest day since last fall, it will feel quite hot to some of you.

If you are in Portland working tomorrow, downtown will be bustling with people enjoying the warm weather all day. I expect a lot of folks sitting in Monument Square enjoying lunch outside.

Showers arrive Tuesday, scattered in nature, and expect periods of sunshine mixed with the clouds. It won’t be as warm, but still above average in the 60sto lower 70s.

Drier weather returns for the middle of the week with late May and early June like readings. If you have planted some grass seed, flowers or anything this weekend, be sure to check the soil and make sure it’s not dry. Without much rain on the horizon, it will be important to help out Mother Nature a bit.
