WESTBROOK — Idexx Laboratories Inc. on Wednesday reported third-quarter profit of $44.2 million.

On a per-share basis, the Westbrook-based company said it had net income of 48 cents. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs, were 54 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 53 cents per share.

The animal diagnostic and health care company posted revenue of $406.4 million in the period, which missed Wall Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $407.1 million.

Idexx expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.04 to $2.07 per share, with revenue in the range of $1.6 billion to $1.61 billion.

Idexx shares have risen 3.5 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 11 percent in the last 12 months.
