PHILADELPHIA — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s job rating has hit a record low in another poll, with 26 percent of registered New Jersey voters approving and 65 percent disapproving.

The poll released Monday by Monmouth University also found most New Jerseyans – 68 percent – think the Republican governor endorsed Donald Trump for president to get a job in the billionaire businessman’s administration.

“Despite his statements to the contrary, the vast majority of New Jerseyans seem to believe that Christie’s main concern right now is figuring how to get out of the state as soon as possible,” Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a press release.

The poll is the latest to find Christie’s approval rating drop to a new low. A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll two weeks ago found Christie’s approval at 26 percent with registered voters, while a Quinnipiac University poll, also last month, found it at 29 percent.

Among New Jersey adults – not just registered voters – Christie’s rating in the Monmouth poll released Monday was 27 percent approval, 63 percent disapproval.

More New Jerseyans than ever questioned Christie’s commitment to his day job, the poll found, with 79 percent saying Christie was more concerned with his political future than with governing the state.

The figure marks “the highest level of public skepticism about Christie’s public service commitment in more than four years of asking this question,” according to the polling institute.

Christie still had a net positive rating with New Jersey Republicans, with 51 percent approving and 41 percent disapproving, according to the poll.
