Vote “no” on Question 3! According to the Maine Constitution: “Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.”

The proposed law behind Question 3 is not enforceable, because I am not now required to carry either proof of gun ownership or proof that I have successfully passed a background check. Why, then, do advocates of Question 3 want universal background checks for some transfers?

As soon as Question 3 is passed, these same advocates will probably then demand that all arms be licensed and that individuals carry proof of gun ownership and a successful background check. A state gun registry will then also be required, all of which calls into question my right as a law-abiding citizen to keep and bear arms.

As written, the law behind Question 3 will make criminals of law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to stop criminals from getting guns.
