An Anson man was arrested Thursday on felony charges in connection with a burglary and theft of cash from the Anson Town Office, police said.
Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said Peter Mcanistan, 38, was taken into custody after a search Thursday of his home on Main Street in Anson. Mcanistan is charged with burglary, theft, and unlawful possession of oxycodone, all felonies. He is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 9 in Skowhegan District Court.
Lancaster said the burglary occurred Dec. 19. About $3,100 was stolen, according to Lancaster, who said the suspect broke in through the rear door.
“The Town Office had recently installed a surveillance system in the building and the burglary was captured on video,” the sheriff said. “The investigation revealed that the individual remained in the building for a lengthy period of time before leaving.”
Lancaster said deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office identified Mcanistan from video surveillance.
