‘12 Years a Slave’ actors top SAG award list

‘August: Osage County,’ ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’ also rack up acting nominations.

LOS ANGELES — The historic saga “12 Years a Slave” topped the nominations list for the Screen Actors Guild Awards Wednesday with four nominations.

“August: Osage County,” which hits theaters Dec. 25 and features an all-star cast including Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, also picked up awards-season momentum with three nominations, including outstanding performance for the cast.

Joining the SAG list for outstanding cast performance are the AIDS drama “Dallas Buyers Club” and the White House tale “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” Those films received three nominations each.

Also nominated for cast performance was the 1970s con-artist romp “American Hustle.” And the film scored an individual supporting nomination for Jennifer Lawrence.

“12 Years a Slave” also got individual nominations, including male lead for Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender for supporting actor.

“Osage County” had nominations for Streep for female lead and Roberts for supporting.

Other best-actress nominees include Cate Blanchett in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine,” Sandra Bullock in “Gravity,” Judi Dench in “Philomena” and Emma Thompson in “Saving Mr. Banks.”

Other lead actor nominees are Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyers Club,” Forest Whitaker for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” Bruce Dern for “Nebraska” and Tom Hanks for “Captain Phillips.”

The SAG Awards will be presented Jan. 18.
