CUMBERLAND — Silas Eastman of Fryeburg Academy finished third in the New England High School Boys Cross Country Championship Saturday at Twin Brooks Recreation Area.
Eastman’s performance was the highlight for Maine’s competitors. He finished in a time of 16:26.09. Josef Holt-Andrews of Telstar finished fifth (16:29.75). Henry Wynne from Staples High in Connecticut won (16:12.86).
In the girls’ race, Waterville’s Bethanie Brown was Maine’s top finisher, in seventh place, in 19:18.60.
Greely High’s Kirstin Sandreuter finished 13th (19:40.78). Elle Purrier of Richford, Vt., won in 18:42.44.
In the team competition, Bishop Henricksen from Rhode Island won the boys’ title with 85 points. Cape Elizabeth was the top Maine team, in 22nd place, with 507 points.
Among the girls, Barrington (R.I.) High won with 75 points. Bonny Eagle (407 points) was the best Maine team with a 15th place.
