KENNEBUNK — The victim in a weekend assault outside a bar was discharged from a Portland hospital today after spending several days in intensive care.

Police say Andrew Lavalle, 24, of Kennebunk was brought to Maine medical Center in serious condition after the confrontation. Police say a man Lavalle had met that night punched him once and that he then fell and hit his head on the pavement.

Kennebunk police continue to search for a suspect in a weekend attack outside a downtown bar that left another man in the hospital in intensive care.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and working with New Hampshire police as they try to identify the attacker, said Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee, public information officer and head of investigations.

The attack happened in the parking lot outside Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Pub just before midnight on Saturday night.

There was no weapon used. Instead, the suspect appears to have punched the other man once, who then fell and hit his head, Burpee said. The victim, 24 and from Kennebunk, was taken to Maine Medical Center with a serious head injury, he said.

Police have not identified the victim or furnished a more detailed description of the circumstances because of the ongoing investigation, he said.

Police described the attack as unprovoked. However, it now appears the suspect and victim may have known of each other, Burpee said.

Both had come to the bar accompanied by others, he said.

The suspect was described as in his mid-20s, close to 6 feet tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, and having dark hair and a scruffy beard. Police say his first name may be Brandon and he may be from the Dover-Rochester area of New Hampshire.

Police ask that anyone with information call Detective Dave Jamieson at 207-604-1319.
