Almanzar triple sparks Sea Dogs win over Fisher Cats, 4-2

PORTLAND — Michael Almanzar tripled in two runs in the eighth inning and then scored himself in a 4-2 Portland Sea Dogs victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Wednesday afternoon, before 6,090 at Hadlock Field.

Portland improved to 62-67, while New Hampshire dropped to 63-65.

Mickey Pena, 22, made his first start for the Sea Dogs and excelled through seven innings, allowing five hits and no runs.

Portland took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on singles by Christian Vazquez and Peter Hissey, and an RBI ground-out by Derrik Gibson.

New Hampshire tied it in the eighth inning with a single and RBI double off reliever Jeremy Kehrt.
Almanzar’s triple gave Portland the lead again. Vazquez singled him in for a 4-1 advantage.

The Fisher Cats scored one in the ninth and loaded the bases with one out. Kehrt struck out Kenny Wilson. Reliever Noe Ramirez entered and got Andy Burns to fly out to shortstop Gibson to end the game.

The Sea Dogs embark on their final road trip of the year, starting tonight in Trenton and ending next Thursday in Manchester, N.H. The team returns to Hadlock Field for the final five games of the regular season, Aug. 30-Sept. 2 (doubleheader on Aug. 31).
