Softball Roundup: Capers capture a showdown game

FRYEBURG - Mary Perkins had two hits, including a double, and scored twice Friday to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 9-6 victory against Fryeburg Academy in a game between unbeaten Western Maine Conference softball teams.

Emma O'Rourke and Shannon Nicholson added RBI doubles for the Capers, (9-0) who scored three times in the third and fourth innings, and twice in the fifth.

Carla Tripp and Ellen Bacchiocchi had three hits apiece for Fryeburg (10-1).

WINSLOW 9, LINCOLN ACADEMY 1: Allie LeClair had a pair of home runs and finished with four RBI to lead the Black Raiders (10-0) past the Eagles (5-5) at Winslow.

BIDDEFORD 9, WINDHAM 3: Charlotte White hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and the Tigers (7-3) went on to defeat Windham (3-6) at Biddeford. Katelyn Lebreux singled in Mariah Albert with the go-ahead run in the second.

Abbie Paquette of Biddeford allowed four hits, struck out six and walked one.

BONNY EAGLE 12, MCAULEY 0: Erica Sullivan struck out seven, Allison Pike had three hits, and Becca Howell added two hits with three RBI as the Scots (5-4) handled the Lions (1-8) in five innings at Standish.

Pike also scored twice and drove in a run.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 14, BOOTHBAY REGION 0: Shannon Laubauskas drove in three runs to lead Mountain Valley (4-4) in a five-inning victory against the Seahawks (0-9) at Boothbay Harbor.

Lindsey Marston of the Falcons pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts.

KENNEBUNK 8, GORHAM 7: Gabrielle Harrison singled to left in the sixth inning to bring home the go-ahead run as visiting Kennebunk (5-4) beat Gorham (3-6).

Harrison then scored on Allison King's single to center.

Gorham added a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Hasrrison finished with three RBI and two runs on three hits.

NOBLE 4, SANFORD 3: Melodie Bailey hit a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Knights (6-3) over the Spartans (5-5) at North Berwick.

Sanford took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth on a home run by Kelly Tovey, who finished with three hits.

Amber Kelly of Noble scattered eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Sam Adams pitched a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk for Sanford.

CHEVERUS 7, PORTLAND 1: Libby DesRuisseaux went 4 for 5, and Casey Simpson added three hits and an RBI as the visiting Stags (6-2) downed the Bulldogs (2-9) at Portland.

Brittany Bell struck out 10 over six shutout innings for Cheverus.

SACOPEE VALLEY SPLITS WITH OLD ORCHARD BEACH: Abigail Dubois hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Seagulls (2-7) to a 10-8 win over the Hawks (3-7) in the opener of a doubleheader at South Hiram.

In the second game, Liz Moulton had two hits and drove in a run to lead Sacopee to a 6-4 victory.

SCARBOROUGH 15, DEERING 3: Alyssa Williamson had two hits with four RBI, including a two-run homer, and the Red Storm (8-1) scored 10 runs in the third inning for a five-inning victory against the Rams (0-9) at Scarborough.

Megan Murrell, Grace Farnkoff and Giles also had two hits for Scarborough.

Erin Giles of the Red Storm struck out eight before being relieved by Williamson to start the fifth.

Lindsey Sweeney drove in two runs for Deering.
