Boys’ soccer: Late penalty kick lifts Rams

WINDHAM — Stephen Ochan converted a penalty kick with 5:54 remaining to send Deering to a 1-0 win over Windham in an SMAA boys' soccer match Saturday.

Frankie Alvarez was taken down while breaking down the left side, leading to the penalty kick.

Anthony Russo recorded the shutout with five saves as Deering improved to 4-0-1. Tyler Connors turned away eight shots for Windham (1-3-1).

WESTBROOK 3, MASSABESIC 2: Owen Gillis headed in Chadd Pelletier's cross with six minutes left to propel the Blue Blazes (4-2) past the Mustangs (1-4) in Westbrook.

The goal was Gillis' second of the match. Elisha Gato also scored for Westbrook. Dylan Blackington and Surafel Zunser scored for Massabesic.

BONNY EAGLE 3, MARSHWOOD 2: James Patchell broke a 1-1 tie in the 49th minute and the Scots (4-2) edged the Hawks (0-6) at Standish.

Ryan Kern made it 3-1 with 17:04 remaining before Tobias Lambert scored for Marshwood with 9:40 to play.

Bonny Eagle's Ryan Moody and Marshwood's Hanssen Casey scored in the first half.

GORHAM 4, BIDDEFORD 0: Cody Elliott scored twice, Cole Houghton had a goal and an assist and the host Rams (5-1) held the Tigers (0-4) without a shot.

Nate Roberts also scored.

NOBLE 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Josh Emard had two goals and an assist to lead the Knights (4-0-1) past the Red Riots (2-3) at North Berwick.

D.J. Cloutier and Austin Shorey also scored for the Knights, who led 2-0 at halftime. Andrew Whipple scored for the Riots.

PORTLAND 2, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Ibrahim Dahir scored in the first half and Tim Baker added a second-half goal for the Bulldogs (5-1) in victory over the Trojans (0-4-1) at Saco.

WAYNFLETE 3, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Harry Baker-Connick scored twice and Henry Cleaves got the go-ahead goal early in the second half as the Flyers (4-0) beat the Patriots (1-4) at Gray.

Gray-New Gloucester's Jesse Ricardi started the scoring.
