Gov. John Baldacci has declared April to be “Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month” and urged Maine citizens to participate in the Manpower MS Walks to be held April 9 and 10 and May 14.
Noting that there are approximately 3,000 Maine residents who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a per capita rate 70% higher than the national rate, Governor Baldacci called for “active participation in the MS Walks on April 9 and 10 and May 14 to raise funds to support our fellow Maine residents who are living with MS and to help find a cure”.
Russell Anderson, President of the Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, thanked Governor Baldacci for his leadership and support “Maine resident have a proud history of helping others in need, especially when those in need are our neighbors”, said Anderson. “The Manpower MS Walks are the chapter’s largest and most important fundraisers of the year. We count on the generosity of thousands of Mainers to raise money and participate in these Walks.”
Walk sites, dates and locations are as follows. All Walks begin at 9:00 am, registration at 8:00 am.
