Opening Weekend at Scarborough Downs gets underway Saturday, April 14, (3:45 p.m. post time) and Sunday, April 15, (12:05 p.m. post time) with a number of promotions and activities for visitors to enjoy.

Award-winning Country singer Jose Duddy will be performing the National Anthem live on the track’s apron right before live racing begins. And to celebrate the beginning of the season, Scarborough High School Senior Jay Vachon will announce “first call” on the trumpet for the first race. Also entertaining the patrons will be “Whinney,” the Harness Racing Promotion Board mascot, who will be greeting patrons and giving out balloons and coloring books to kids throughout the race day.

“The most exciting news,” says Susan Higgins, director of marketing, “is we are offering free admission to everyone, all season, every season. This is one of the ways we are thanking our customers for their patronage.

Saturday also marks the official launch of the Scarborough Downs new Player Rewards program, in which bettors earn points for every dollar wagered for prizes. “A lot of tracks are offering rewards programs,” says Higgins, “and this is one more way we are thanking our customers for their loyalty.” Customers earn double points for every Scarborough Downs live race.

Scarborough Downs will also be showcasing their new VIP Lounge, a state of the art simulcasting room with flat-screen TVs and personalized service for the “serious player.”

There will also be door prizes drawn between each race.

Live race dates are Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays at 3:45 p.m. and Sundays at 12:05 p.m.
