The Scarborough Red Storm softball team is picking up right where it left off last season.

The defending Class A state champions are undefeated as they look to defend their title.

After beating Bonny Eagle (1-0), McAuley (14-5) and Sanford (8-2) in April, the Storm have entered May on a roll as evidenced by a pair of 6-0 shutouts of Kennebunk (May 2) and Deering (May 5).

Against Kennebunk, pitcher Melissa Dellatorre was unstoppable, tossing a no-hitter with seven strikeouts. Dellatore has been dominant on the mound this year for the Red Storm, striking out 15, while tossing a one-hitter against Bonny Eagle in the season opener and adding five more strikeouts in the game against McAuley.

On the offensive side for Scarborough against Kennebunk, Catie Funk accounted for half of the Red Storm runs with a home run and three RBIs.

On May 5, the Red Storm took on Deering, and once again Dellatore was unstoppable, as she struck out 11 while allowing only one hit.

Funk continued her terrific offensive season against the Rams, homering for the second consecutive game.

The Storm look to keep the momentum going this week, as they travel to Westbrook on May 7 (a game played after the Current’s deadline) and then return home to take on Windham in a 7 p.m. night game.
