SUBHEAD-SMCC hoops teams fall at home
The Southern Maine Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams both dropped home games Saturday. The men, coming off a 93-81 home win over the University of Maine-Augusta, fell 80-71 to Navy Prep despite 28 points from standout Coleman Findlay. Findlay was also named Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Week. Findlay is averaging 20.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this winter. The Seawolves (13-4) were tied for second in the latest national poll. SMCC’s women’s squad, 63-38 victors over visiting UMA Thursday, lost 80-38 to the Apprentice School Saturday. Sonya O’Tash finished with 16 points. The Seawolves (14th in the latest national poll) dropped to 10-7. SMCC played at rival Central Maine Community College Wednesday (too late for this edition).
SUBHEAD-South Portland boy wins coastal hoop shoot
South Portland’s Michael Wiper won the boys’ 10-11 division of the Coastal District Elks Hoop Shoot Contest Sunday in Brunswick. Wiper advances to the Maine finals to be held Feb. 1 at Cony High School in Augusta.
SUBHEAD-Frozen 4-miler rescheduled for Sunday
Last Sunday’s Jimmy The Greek’s Frozen 4-miler in Old Orchard Beach has been rescheduled to this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The race begins and ends at Jimmy the Greek’s restaurant.

Casco Bay Sports is now offering co-ed Tuesday and Thursday basketball leagues with referees. Monday Night Social Runs (6 p.m.) and Wednesday Night Rock Climbing (6:30 p.m.) are also being offered.

SUBHEAD-Girls and Women in Sports Day upcoming
Bowdoin College will host the annual Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 8, at Farley Fieldhouse. The session for grades K through 3 is from 12 to 2 p.m. Grades 4 through high school go from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m. The free event is designed to introduce young women to a wide range of sports. Pizza and snacks with the Bowdoin student-athletes will be available afterwards.
