FALMOUTH — Dr. Jekyll, meet Mr. Hyde. Mr. Ying, meet Mr. Yang.
And Fred Flinstone, meet George Jetson. While you’re at it, you can introduce the Kennebunk boys lacrosse team to the second quarter. And the third. And the fourth.
Yet all that was opposite for the Rams did not attract, as they were blasted 13-1 by Falmouth, in an interclass encounter, Thursday.
The Rams played what coach Charlie Burch felt was their best first period since the team assembled for the first day of practice.
They promptly followed it with their three worst.
That was especially true of the second stanza, when Falmouth netted six goals, and three in the final minute.
“I’m kind of at a loss,” said Burch, struggling to put his thoughts into words. “I thought that was our best first period, counting exhibitions.”
The score was tied, 1-1, at that point, with Kevin Airoldi having answered an earlier goal by Falmouth’s Nick Bachman.
Airoldi’s tally came 8:55 into the contest, on a 30 foot laser that found space just under the cross bar.
As it turned out, that was the lone Kennebunk highlight.
The Rams took a turn for the worst, when at 2:07 of the second, Falmouth’s Tucker Hyland kicked the ball loose out of a scrum in front of the Kennebunk goal.
Then, while the Ram defense was standing flat-footed, Hyland kicked the ball again, sending it past goalie Cullen Finn.
The play, a legal move in lacrosse, put the Yachtsmen up 2-1, and was the first of a 12-goal run by them.
“In that first half,” said Burch, “we gave up two or three goals on rebound situations. Cullen was making the initial save, then they were getting the immediate second chance, because they were beating us to the ground balls.”
The worst of it came as the half wound down, while the Rams trailed by a still-manageable 4-1 count.
Falmouth exploded for three goals in the final :46. The last of those came with just :05.5 showing on the clock.
The Yachtsmen followed that with a trio of tallies in both the third and fourth quarters.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do next,” said Burch. “We’re going to have to work on faceoffs. Defensively we were going for the stick check instead of for the body.”
The Rams will get a chance to rebound Saturday (4:30 p.m.), when they’ll host Greely.
