Thumbs up to the neighbors and friends of brothers Derek and Gage Greene, who have cooperated with police in the investigation into the shooting deaths of the Greenes in front of Rory Holland’s home Tuesday, June 30. As well, the Biddeford Police Department and Maine State Police should be commended for their hard work investigating the shooting, which has rattled the community.
Thumbs up to the City of Saco for working with GridSolar to lease city property for a solar power operation. The city is quickly building a reputation for itself as an energy-conscious, progressive place, highlighted by the wind turbine that is now powering the transportation center on Saco Island. A solar power project would be another feather in the city’s cap.
Thumbs up to State Police investigators for locating, retrieving and identifying the remains of missing woman Frances Moulton. Police have ruled the death a homicide. Their work, which included diving into the well, has brought closure to the family and friends of Moulton and could help lead them to her killer.
Thumbs up to Shirley Harrison, who recently retired from a 33-year career as town clerk in Lyman. Harrison made her mark in town not only as a particularly devoted, detail-oriented employee, but also as a compassionate friend, co-worker and neighbor. Her work and reputation has been a source of town pride for many years and will be commemorated with a granite bench at Lyman-Dayton Community Library for years to come.
Thumbs up to Old Orchard Beach officials for completing their budget process just in the nick of time, within the fiscal year. The decision to keep the budget flat avoids any painful increases for those who are already facing tight budgets at home, but also allows the town to keep some savings for major improvements or unforeseen needs.
