WINDHAM — A Maine state game warden riding an ATV went through the ice on Sebago Lake.
Authorities say Gary Allen was riding the ATV at about 3 p.m. Friday on an established trail. He was crossing a pressure ridge near Raymond Beach when the back wheels of the ATV began spinning and going through the ice, heading into the water.
Authorities say Allen was wearing a department “float coat,” which protected him from the cold water. He was able to get out of the water by kicking his feet and sliding onto the ice, which was about 6 inches thick around the pressure ridge. The ATV sank in about 40 feet of water.
Ice fishermen came to Allen’s aid, who warmed up and was determined to be fine.
